What To Expect

We Strive To Make Your Time Here Productive Using Effective Techniques, Education About Your Health/Condition And Rehabilitation.

We encourage questions, suggestions and open communication. We will be on time and keep all of our appointments. If we have to reschedule you, we will give you at least 24-hours notice. Please extend to us the same respect and courtesy.

Understanding why and how something is beneficial to you means that you are more likely to be proactive about it! Primarily, the most important component of your treatment here is the adjustment. Adjustments reset proprioceptors (balance and spatial perception) deep in the joint, help align scar tissues, get nutrition into a joint, and get things moving in the right direction! We like to call adjustments, pre-rehabilitation, getting everything preset for rehab.

Traction

The type of traction we use varies based on a patient’s mechanics, relative comfort, and where someone is in the healing process. Restoring curves in the spine takes time, consistency and good communication. To make changes in ligaments without causing damage, we slowly increase time in the unit and fulcrum (angle). Your being proactive by making sure that you are following frequency recommendations, and being truthful with us about how well you are tolerating your time in the traction unit, has a profound effect on your outcome!

Rehabilitation

The proprioceptive rehab helps solidify and fine tune what you’ve started with adjustments and traction. These exercises along with strengthening and stabilizing will allow your spine and body to function more normally again. Proprioceptive rehab will aid your nervous system in dampening some of your pain perception (nociception) and enabling you to do more without re-injury. Studies tell us people don’t do home exercises and that’s part of why we want you to do so much in the office! If your can be proactive at home and do the prescribed exercises, then you are ahead of 90% of the population! Studies also show that when you utilize chiropractic in combination with rehab and exercises you get great results.

Wellness Care

Lastly, but very importantly, comes maintenance. Once you have taken the time, energy and money to get your body functioning at a level where you are biomechanically sound and free of pain, you want to keep it that way! Often people think, “This is great,” and forget about home exercises or don’t think about getting adjusted until they start to hurt again. Try to reframe your thinking – just like you brush and floss at home and get your teeth cleaned every six months. Continue to fine tune with your home exercises (ask for more!) and come and get adjusted before you hurt. Remember the biomechanical changes happen first and after much compensation by your body – then pain comes. The more proactive you are, the less pain and downtime you will experience.

WHAT’S ALL THIS ABOUT THE CURVES?

One of our most important goals while you are under our care is to restore and maintain the normal curves in your spine. So why is this such a big deal? With loss of the normal curve, many negative changes occur and over time contribute to increased pain and decreased function. Study after study confirms the correlation loss of curve equals increased incidence of degenerative changes in the discs, more headaches and more pain. One study found that patients with straightened or reversed cervical spines are 18 times more likely to have neck related complaints than those with 20 degrees or greater lordosis. Restoring the curve takes time and requires commitment and consistency; it amounts to a long-term investment in your health. Once you make these changes, they are permanent (barring traumatic injury) and easily maintained with wellness care.
